The bus ride to New York is now a familiar thing. Minor inns and exotic discount supermarkets are the landmarks that I use to measure progress, if not location: I know how far along we are, but I have no idea where we are.

So the Westboro Baptist Church didn’t show up on Thursday – they’d been stopped at the border, surprise surprise.
