Mark Shyzer is a comedic writer and performer.
His solo shows have picked up dozens of awards in cities across North America, including double Outstanding Solo Performance nods from the Ottawa Fringe and several Audience Choice Awards (Frigid Festival New York, Vancouver Fringe Festival, Victoria Fringe Festival, Winnipeg Fringe Festival). Critics praised Fishbowl as “an impressive bit of character writing… beautifully performed in a delightful little show,” and “Funny, insightful, intellectually stimulating and excellently performed,” while Great Battles in History has been described as “a strange and powerful lingering show” and “a touching play full of laughs.”
Other writing credits include the book and lyrics for Long Dark Night – a film noir musical comedy – and a verse adaptation of Alice, Through the Looking Glass, performed by students at the Toronto School of Circus Arts.
Mark has studied improv at The Second City and Bad Dog in Toronto and Upright Citizens Brigade in New York. He performs improv, sketch, and musical comedy regularly throughout Toronto and beyond, particularly with his sketch troupe Highbräu, with whom he has been praised for his “dry delivery and his impressively limber physical comedy.”
